WELCOME TO THE

NORTH AMERICAN RUMI MAKI ASSOCIATION LLC

N.A.R.M.A. was established as a foundation for the Restoration of the Cultural fighting system of the Peruvian Inca.  Our main focus is to provide a networking club for the development and promotion of American Rumi Maki Kickboxing, along with the Inca Shamanic practices for the 9-Rites of the Munay-Ki and the Way of the luminous warrior.

Because our association is still in the pioneering stages of it's development, we have tried to address a few of it's basic concepts within the Question & Answer format listed below.

If you would like to learn more about N.A.R.M.A. or to find out how you can become a member, please go to our contact information page and send us your request by email.

What is RUMI MAKI Martial Arts
American Rumi Maki
, is a modern version of the ancient Inca Fighting System, which has manifested into a competition sparing sport among it's practitioners here in the United States. It is centered around the martial discipline of Peruvian Stick Fighting & Kickboxing

A.R.M. Sparing is performed in the same tradition as the fighting festivals of Takanakuy held in Bolivia and Peru.

 See link for more info.

It is for this reason that ( A. R. M. ) is classified as both Competition Fighting System, and a cultural Martial Art.

Boxing Gloves are worn for protection by all American Rumi Runa competitors

Today, N.A.R.M.A.  is actively seeking to establish a second organization in the country of Peru called S.A.R.M.A. - For -  South American Rumi Maki Association.  This new association will serve as a foundation

for the development and re-codification of the ancient form of Rumi Maki, by uniting the previously undocumented training lineages within that country.

HOW DID IT COME IN TO EXISTENCE?

The name of the sport is called ( Rumi Runa Combatives ) It was designed as a motif, in order to capture the imagination of the mythological legends, surrounding the high altitude physical conditioning of the Inca Warriors.

The words Rum Maki are actually derived from the ancient Inca Language, which means " Stone Hand " The words Rumi Runa, is also derived from the Quecha Language.

American Rumi Maki Kickboxing, was designed by Grand Master: Eddie Vuittonet and Sinchi: Mike Akens based upon the five concepts within the history of the fighting system of the Peruvian Inca.

American Rumi  Maki Kickboxing also uses specialized shamanic breathing techniques, designed to control the rush of adrenaline released into a persons body during the Fight or Flight responses to all combat related situations.

Is there anyone living in the United States who has knowledge about the Ancient Inca Fighting System?

1024x1024-1458175.jpg

The answer to that question is Yes!. There are many people living in the city of Patterson N.J. who are from other training lineages.  It is these people that Sinchi: Mike Akens is using to help him to restore the Inca Fighting System.

As a note:

The North American Rumi maki Association was created in order to pursue the knowledge of the Inca warrior. Sinchi Mike Akens has been diligently researching it's history, and reunited many of the scattered training lineages in order to help him re- codify the ( Ancient ) Form of Rumi Maki in order to share it with the world.!

During Sinchi Mike Akens search for other Rumi Maki training lineages, he was introduced to a man by the name of Manuel Martinez who was a practicing Shaman of Inca Medicine.

Shaman Martinez told him stories about a group of people known as the Liaka, who were said to be the descendants of the people we now call the Pacific Islanders. Some of which migrated to the Andes thousand years ago.

These people migrated into the Andean Mountains, and became Known as the Laika. The Laika were the Shamanic Warriors who Trained the Armies of the Inca. In 2010, the discovery of a metatarsal of Callao Man

was identified. Some scientist believe these people were possibly the Builders of ( Machu Picchu ) The discovery was reliably carbon dated by uranium-series dating back  to 67,000 years ago.

Over the past few years Sinchi Mike Akens has cataloged and perfected the components of the five levels in the Inca Stone Hand Techniques, into a new and more stream lined fighting system of which he calls " American Rumi MakiSinchi Mike Akens makes it clear, that this work is a declaration of his own interpretation of the Inca Fighting System, based upon the the re-codified techniques of various American & Peruvian training lineages.

As a note: The application of American Rumi Maki as a Martial Sport is now the primary focus.  The modern version these Stone Hand techniques are more correctly called,  ( A.R.M. - C. Q. F. )

Just as the Peruvian Fighting Style of ( Vacón ) which is an adaptation of ( CQC ) for the Peruvian Military.  Developed in the 1980s which is a mixture between Asian martial arts like jujitsu along with vicious street fighting techniques. As well as Tony DeSouza who created ( Cholitzu ) from an adaption of Muay Thai Kickboxing. More recently we see ( Lu Ju Tai ) coming to the forefront for ( MAA ) fighters in Peru.

HOW DID IT BECOME A COMPETITION SPARING SPORT?

1024x1024-1153422.jpg

The original purpose for our sparing events were meant to improve the practitioners workout and thus create better stamina and endurance. As students from other schools begin to spar against one another during special events held by our sports club.

Numerous rules and regulations were set up in order to control the level of force applied by each opponent.

These rules for the game have now been adapted as the official regulations for our sport. As the concept of American Rumi Maki Kickboxing began to grow, both the exercise aspects and the sparing aspects were copy righted into a Health and Fitness Journal.

This journal is now governed by the members and managers on the board of certification and training for the N.A.R.M.A. organization.

American Rumi Maki Kickboxing  is many things to different people. It is a fun sport, an art form, a discipline, a recreational or social activity, a fitness program, a means of self-defense  and a way of life.

The Shamanic principles used in American Rumi Maki Kickboxing along with the application of the Way of the Luminous Warrior, can also be used in our dealings with others in life. The ultimate goal in the Way of the Luminous Warrior is to develop oneself to the maximum extent possible, always striving for perfection, so that you can contribute something of value to the world.

What is Soroche Breathing?

The Shamanic Breathing Technique use in the Rumi Maki Kickboxing is called  " Soroche BreathingTM"

A concept designed by Sinchi: Akens, a student of Dr. Alberto Villoldo of the Four winds Society, for Inca Shamanic studies.

Soroche Breathing is a shamanic practice for high altitude endurance which allows you to shift your breathing rate by alternating from mouth to nose and then varying the lengths of you exhale in order to change your breathing patterns, helping you to flood the body with oxygen. The ancient Laika shaman practiced these techniques in order to prevent altitude sickness.

Applying this technique during a competition sparing match will help train you to stimulate the body's parasympathetic response.

The human body has an inborn, "pre-wired" response for dealing with dangerous situations - it is called the "fight or flight" response. Both fighting and fleeing require the same activities on the part of the body's organs.  The purpose of this response is to prepare the individual for vigorous muscular activity in response to a perceived threat.

By itself, this response is normal, healthy, and adaptive.  But when the "fight or flight" response occurs while engaged in a physical altercation, we easily begin to experience the negative effects of battle fatigue and stress. Instead of breathing slowly from our lower lungs, we begin to breathe rapidly and shallowly from our upper lungs which can produce a phenomenon called hyperventilation.

1024x1024-1211011.jpg

Hyperventilation is something that every competition fighter must avoid in order to prevent the symptoms of shortness of breath, dizziness and a host of other respiratory problems. The good news is that with a little practice and training, you can easily reverse the symptoms of hyperventilation, which has an effect similar to altitude sickness. The human nervous system has a component that works automatically which is called the autonomic nervous system

The autonomic nervous system has two divisions:  The 'sympathetic' and 'parasympathetic' divisions.

When the sympathetic division is active, we experience the fight / flight response, and when the parasympathetic division is active, we experience the exact opposite. One produces chemicals into the body which causes tension & stress, and the other which produces a calming effect of rest & relaxation.  These two systems work to help us maintain our physical balance.

Through a shift in your consciousness, and by practicing these Shamanic breathing techniques, you can change your bodies reaction to the ( autonomic nervous system ) responses. When Competition Sparing with Soroche Breathing Techniques:

  • oxygen consumption decreases
  • breathing slows
  • heart rate slows
  • blood pressure decreases
  • muscle tension decreases
  • plus you feel a growing sense of ease in body, and calmness in the mind.

What is the Munay-Ki and the 9-Rites?

The 9-Rites are founded upon the extraordinary gift presented to Dr. Villoldo, by the ancient Laika Shaman of Peru. The prophecies of the ancient Americas speak about this time in history as a period of great transformation, a time to make an extraordinary difference in the world.

1024x1024-1295941.jpg

They foretell of a new human appearing on the planet – a person of wisdom and power who lives free of fear and resides in their eternal nature; accepting stewardship for all creation.

The rites of the Munay-Ki are the energetic “codes” for this new human known as “Sentient-Luminous Beings”    The " Ayni "  of the Ultimate Truth.

The Munay-Kiare the nine great rites of initiation of the medicine way, which come from the ancient men and women known as the Laika.

These initiations are one of three pillars of the medicine teachings and are best received in conjunction with the "core insights", the personal healing work of the Medicine Wheel and the intervention tools of shamanic energy medicine, as taught in the Healing the Light Body program. Together with the teachings and interventions, the rites, which are received as “seeds” have the solid vessel necessary for them to grow within and the fertile soil that nurtures them to blossom fully.

1024x1024-1181346.gif

The Rites of the Munay-Ki are experienced in the form of energetic transmissions that shift the luminous energy field. They are a nine step process to heal the wounds of the past – our karmic & genetic inheritance. They help us to step into the fullness of our nature by transforming our human energy field and re-informing our DNA, enabling us to grow a new body – one that ages, heals, and dies differently.

Now is the time to step into your own inner healing journey, an opportunity to source from the extraordinary world of creation. The choice is yours and we each are making the choice, now. The Munay-Ki is your invitation to step into an alchemical transformation, a journey of healing. Stepping into the world of creators, who choose to dream an entire new world into being.

The Munay-Ki training program includes personal healing work, intertwined with teaching, hands-on practice, meditation, journeying, ceremony and ritual, as well as mentoring in and transmission of, the nine great rites of passage.

You will learn the exact form of the nine rites of passage and how to gift them to others, taking home the skills to facilitate friends and clients to step into who they are becoming. The Rites of the Munay-Ki help us to walk through the world, as instruments of peace and agents for change and transformation.
