RULES OF YACHAY WASI - SCHOOL

1. Bow to the flag before entering and leaving the school and office.

2. When you see your SINCHI or are asking questions you must be respectful.

3. Respect all your senior belts and fellow Rumi Runa students.

4. Keep your uniform clean at all time and always clean the school.

5. Do not face your SINCHI when you are fixing your uniform.

6. Do not smoke, drink, or chew gum while training.

7. Do not use profanity at any time.

8. Do not talk out loudly, no horseplay, no whistling.

9. Do not speak to visitors while training.

10. Have discipline while training.

COMMANDMENTS FOR SELF-DEFENSE WITH A.R.M. – C.Q.F.

1. Never under-estimate your opponent, always assume he is dangerous.

2. Don't get fancy, use simple, easy and effective techniques.

3. Be sure you are always well-balanced when delivering a technique.

4. Learn to react instantly, be quick and accurate; do not hesitate.

5. After attacking or counter-attacking never lose sight of your adversary,

be alert for a continuation of his attack; never be caught by surprise.

6. Always deliver your blows to your opponent's weaker areas.

7. Always yell when delivering a technique. This will momentarily distract

and possibly alarm your attacker.

8. Whenever possible use any available object as a weapon to help subdue your opponent.

9. Always fight aggressively. Use all of your strength.

10. When defending yourself, always fight as if your life depends on it.

There's no telling what an attacker's intentions might be.

ILLAPA - INDEX

ILLAPA, also known as form or pattern, is a collection of techniques combined into a coherent pattern against an imaginary opponent. It exists in many martial arts, especially those of oriental origin, It's known as Poomses in

Tae Kwon Do and kata in Karate. These styles practice forms as a method of training techniques, concentration,

and disciplines. ILLAPA in AMERICAN RUMI MAKI has the same purposes.

There are some basic principles on which ILLAPA is constructed. Each starts with the practitioner in the middle; then he or she performs techniques, attacking or defending, against opponents from various directions; there is a pattern in the direction the performer goes. It may be a left-right pattern, like White Belt Basic Stance Form; it may be performed in the Chakana, Inca cross, layout, which is printed in a pattern on the floor of the Yachay Wasi. As in Silat which uses the Panjar.

ILLAPA contains many techniques and stances students are unlikely to learn from the syllabus of their belt levels; therefore, such techniques and stances should be treated as new materials that they also have to learn along their syllabus.

Doing ILLAPA is a special aspect in the training; it's unlike many other trainings, like self defense or sparring. There is an aesthetic element involved; performing ILLAPA is like performing an art. There is a rhythm in it, without which the ILLAPA wouldn't look like ILLAPA but bunch of unconnected techniques. Each technique or stance has to be executed fast and sharp. Furthermore, the performer can express him or herself through ILLAPA. If sparring and self defense is the demonstration of one's physical accomplishment, then ILLAPA is the demonstration of one's mental refinement.

A.R.M. Ground Fighting Techniques:

For each Belt Level - There are Basic Stance & Forms ( illapa ): A pattern of basic strikes, blocks, and stances. It's simple, but yet there can be much beauty in it when performed well. Beginner should know it, and advanced students should master it.

There are five different Belt Ranks in ( A.R. M. )

White, Tan, Brown, Red, and Black. Each Belt Rank has five training levels, and each training level has five different Forms.

Each of these form builds upon one another in order to advance into the higher levels of the A.R.M. training techniques and certification steps. Practicing the Chakana Cross Forms & Pivoting movements is essential to mastering the five levels of American Rumi Maki.

White Belt - LIama Form : students begin to go in four directions in LIama Form. Low block and middle block are prevalent throughout the form. Proficiency in pivoting from Sixteen Silat Form will be helpful in this form.

Tan Belt - Alpaca Form : a very cool and innovative form, it introduces breathing sequence in the beginning of the form. Students can demonstrate a high spirit and vigor throughout.

Brown Belt - Vicuna Form : while still similar to Tan Belt Form, Alpaca Form adds on some more advanced elements. Difficulty may be encountered in the beginning, but with a bit time and effort, it's not too hard to master this form.

Red Belt - Condor Form : the first advanced form that is very similar to Vicuna form, Condor Form also has many cool parts. Again, it's not too difficult, but it helps a lot on the later forms.

Black Belt - Inti Form: a very innovative and different form from all other ones, it goes in six directions instead of four. If you want a break from the four-direction forms, this one can bring some fun and challenge.

Black Belt - Inti Form : perhaps the coolest form most students aspire to learn, Inti Form combines much of the form components a student has learned with many new ones which are not totally new but based on already learned techniques.

Inca - Stone Hand - Techniques Index

There is almost a synonymy between fist and foot in all the martial arts. Human beings since the dawn of time, have learned to use tools as weapons, and their first tool is their hands. Learning hand techniques or at least how to use the hands is a backbone to almost any martial arts. Hand, for striking, is fast and easy to use comparing to other body parts. Foot is generally considered more advanced because of its power, range, and difficulty, but the advantages of hand should not be overlooked. Hand can also deliver great power when all body is incorporated in the technique.

In American Rumi Maki, the Inca Stone Hand Techniques consist of basic techniques such as straight punches, elbows, hook punches, and uppercuts, combination's of them, and blocking techniques. Students should try to incorporate the principles into practical level; the techniques are just references for a good foundation. However, these techniques should be practiced well because they will benefit the students with a good foundation, which is vastly important and whose effects can be felt naturally in practical application.

A.R.M. - C.Q.F. - Foot Techniques Index

Another tool human has learned to use first is foot. Not as versatile as hand, foot nevertheless does two things for human which are of great importance: it gives human mobility and supports human to balance the gravity. Because of the need to support human against the downward pull, leg is conditioned to generate great power; even without dedicated training, leg can provide huge force not easily achieved by other body parts. Along with leg's long reach, foot is a powerful weapon that not only deal physical damage but also psychological impact.

The power of kicks are balanced by its difficulty to use than hand techniques because of most people's unfamiliarity with using leg. Kicks are also slower in a sense, especially when pulling the leg back. Balance is another difficult aspect to master in kicks. Having overcome these problems means a powerful weapon one can use in all situation. No one can argue about the confidence one have when one is able to keep opponent away and deal damage at the same time.

In American Rumi Maki Kickboxing, Advanced Foot Techniques consist of five kinds of kicks and one step footwork for each belt level. The five kinds of kicks are front kick, roundhouse kick, side kick, hooking kick, and reverse roundhouse kick. Front kicks, including snap kicks and axe kicks, are good for dealing damage and surprise attack. Roundhouse kicks are perhaps the mostly used kicks in sparring. Mastering these kicks gives one more options in practical application. Side kicks, including back kicks, are powerful kicks that are hard to be dodged by most people because they are linear fighters. One just has to check out Bruce Lee's side kick (not the flying one) to know its versatility. Hooking kicks are also powerful kicks that are much harder to use. It might be that one should stick to easier and more basic techniques for self defense, but knowing these kicks gives one more options. Stepping footwork is some basic stepping patterns that train mobility and balance. One should have good foundation in footwork to be able to move at will.
